There is a piece of Arsenal transfer news doing the rounds today which suggests that Arsene Wenger has given up his transfer pursuit of a top quality defensive midfielder, even though it was previously thought that the manager was looking to sign either Sami Khedira, Lars Bender or Morgan Schneiderlin.

The story goes that Wenger is going to rely on what he has already got in Arteta, Flamini and Diaby, while also getting Jack Wilshere to drop back and take on a more disciplined role in the Arsenal team. I don’t really see this happening, because it is the attacking and creative side of the game where Wilshere is best.

So I was glad and relieved to see two more pieces of news in the media that suggest that Wenger is going to sign one the three players mentioned above after all, and it looks like the France international from Southampton could be the man.

Firstly, the Daily Star is reporting that the Saints have already picked out a player to replace Schneiderlin, in the Holland and Feyenoord midfielder Jordy Clasi. This is despite their new manager declaring that no more of their players would be leaving this summer. But we know that their player wants to leave.

There were reports that the 24-year old would prefer a transfer to Tottenham over Arsenal, but that would seem strange as we are a much bigger club with Champions League football to offer. And according to Talksport and their expert on the South Coast sides, it is not true, because Schneiderlin would certainly pick Arsenal. So come on Arsene, make it happen!

  1. It’s so frustrating why when everyone knows we need a strong no nonsense tough tackling DM that Arsene seems to think with our small fragile midfield players we will be able to cope when the big boys line up against us.We need someone who will put the fear of God into our rivals. Please go out and sign such a player or two.Don’t let us be the whipping boys again next season.

  2. That is crazy idea!
who in their right mind would prefer Tottenham over Arsenal.
The idea of pochitino(mind the spelling) being a pulling power is also bollix

  3. Where and how do these rumors start? And this happens year after year. I won’t believe any of it until it’s on arsenal.com.

  4. its a fact we have spent only £45 million on only two transfers . we made money from farigas £4 million and sanches £8 million
that leaves us with £ 67 million doing nothing .kahidra £19.8 m agreed .bender is £15 m schneiderlin £16 m.
we could buy all 3 , and still have £16 m in the bank ,which by some strange coincidence is exactly how much it would cost to sign balotelli .
four players at unbeatable squad no change loads of trouphies .

  5. your not wrong .we were promised big name signings before arsene re signed we have one good one and one reasonable one .it seems our manager just gets scared around money .
someone else needs to step in and do the deals .wengere must be a bit jewish somewhere down the line

    1. those four in our team would be unbelievable .we would slay any 11 put in front of us with such a squad . can you not see what we could be mr wenger . why no signings in two weeks ,?

        1. it makes me wonder who should be our manager when our german players are doing more to get kahidira to arsenal than wenger seems to be .

    2. Why don’t you go and support city, Monaco or Chelsea if you just want stupid money spending without thinking better still go and support Leeds seems like a club that was run the way you like

  6. Chill guys.I am happy with our signings. Why are you taking it as fact that we has £100M to spend? That figure came from the same place as the supposed £300M-£100M of the last couple of years….plucked from thin air or from a journalist/blogger’s rectum.

    1. it came from arsenal official spokesman ivan gazidis in a press conference weeks ago. so every one knew to bump up prices as we had money . another great move from the managers ,
we also made money from vela sale £8 million and £4 miilion from fabrigas release clause . total £112 MILLION AVAILABLE ,
total spent sanches £35 million debuchy £ 11 million =£46 million
      available to spend £ 66 million .

  7. Arsene is stubborn, he thinks that you can win the league with trickery and precise passing and doesn’t consider power in the centre of midfield to be important.

However a far bigger problem is his insistence on abou Diaby. This guy is an injury waiting to happen, no one in their right mind would plan on him playing more than 5 games a season. Yet every year without fail we hear the same nonsense from arsene about him being like a new signing.

    1. he says the same thing all the time about walcott and gnabry, like a new signing , it saves loads realy signing anyone .
we seem to be back to dithering old wenger .

    2. Why do all you shallow wenger haters always moan? The window is far from over and you have to read between the lines, wenger knows Madrid have to balance the books after hames signing so he knows he can get khadiera if he lowers his wage demands but the one he really wants is benzema that’s the only reason he didn’t sign remy

  8. The purchases of Sanchez and Debuchy would not have stopped 6 goals being conceded against Chelsea or 5 against Liverpool. Blatantly Arsenal struggle playing away against good teams. That’s where you need a defensive midfielder. It’s simple. Does Arsene think Diaby will make the difference?

  9. 1.) Matija Nastasić
    2.) Morgan Schneiderlin
3.) Jackson Martinez or Alvero Negrado

I think we also need a better full back than Monreal. I would love to see Armand Traore back as he has developed very well at QPR and would be better competition for Gibbs.
