The Arsenal for the last two seasons have seemed to be built upon the superlative performance of the attacking duo of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez going forward. The form of Alexis in attack and the presence of the German playmaker Mesut Ozil behind him in midfield have yielded more dividend for the Gunners in previous seasons.
At the moment there are some mind boggling issues regarding the contract of the attacking duo in the Arsenal Football Club.
There seems to be some behind the scenes debate whether a contract will be signed or not by the two players as the talks continue to linger towards to end of the January transfer with no clarity of what to look forward to in the situation.
These have prompted the duo to be linked to different top sides in recent weeks as Arsenal seeks to keep their star man in the midst of divided opinions.
However, should Arsenal keep these player will depend on if the club can satisfy the player demands in the long run.
With the rate at which the transfer have generated so much interest at the club and the media shows how valuable the duo are to the progress of Arsenal Football Club. Here we evaluate why Arsenal are so reliant on the players in question.
LOW KEY PERFORMANCES
At the club the duo of Sanchez and Ozil tends to stand out in most games with the former picking up a couple of man-of-the-match awards in game already this term.
His magnificent performance in games in most cases have been well above that of his teammate as it was evident against West Ham United where he inspired the Gunners a 5-1 win with a hat-trick and brilliant one for the third goal, with an assist to his name as well.
This cannot be said confidently about his teammates as the likes of Theo Walcott, Alex Iwobi and Oxlade-Chamberlain has shown some level of poor performance in games with the latter here performing poor against Manchester City at the Etihad.
So until other Arsenal players rise up to the occasion the dependency will continue to rest on the duo of Alexis and Mesut.
The duo have gained ascendance in the Arsenal squad partly not only because of their quality but as regards to certain unfavourable conditions in the Arsenal team, the London side have been having some kind of injury problems and this have limited their challenge for the title in recent years.
The treatment room have been populated and any time there is recovery like that of Danny Welbeck, someone else is going back injured.
The likes of Hector Bellerin (just returned), Mathieu Debuchy were all injured, with the former in and out of the treatment room.
This leave so much dependence on the club star players to produce result on match days as squad depth is limited due to injury. The Onus falls on Sanchez to get the better of the opposition which may be very challenging alone to the duo (Sanchez and Ozil) as the case may be.
LACK OF COMPETITION
There is no strict competition at Arsenal Football Club for the duo. The likes of Ozil and Alexis are certain to make the Starting XI as regards to full fitness and this play some kind of complacency and ego in the mind of the player that they are above the rules in certain cases.
At Manchester United there is severe competition among (Wayne) Rooney, Mata, Paul Pogba and Ander Herrera not to talk of the one that exists between Ibrahimovic, Mkhitaryan and the attacking talent of youthful forwards like Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford which is breathing down the neck of the aforementioned team mates at Old Trafford.
The likes of Iwobi and Giroud in tandem with new signing Lucas Perez cannot exert competition for the duo and so the club will continue to rely on the top quality performance of these players (Sanchez and Ozil) in future unless things changes and it has to be quick for that matter.
The Arsenal Football Club is hinged upon glory and charismatic performance of some top quality players in the old days.
Players like Marc Overmars, Denis Bergkamp, Nwankwo Kanu, Patrick Viera and the all-time legend Thierry Henry to name a few have served as a symbol to Arsenal Football greatness and pedigree over the years. Currently the clubs faithful looks forward to star players (the duo) in that regard at the club.
This have fallen on Ozil and Alexis as the world class duo carry the banner and the respect of the Arsenal Football club and that is why the Arsenal side are bent on keeping them for a longer time at the Emirates Stadium.
Wenger must sign a top player to appease the clubs flag bearers in Sanchez and Ozil to give them more reasons to stay on with view of better days to come.
