Another Fail For Arsenal As Star Belgian Also Snubs Offer

Arsenal target Jan Vertonghen doesn’t seem very interested in the possibility of leaving his current club Ajax Amsterdam in spite of the numerous rumours which were linking him to Arsenal and other hot teams around Europe including Premiership Gunner rival Tottenham Hotspur.

“Everyone knows that I have ambitions, but my ultimate desire is not to go away just yet,” he said.

“I will stay for this season – and it could be that I stay at Ajax until my contract runs out in 2013.”

Arsenal needs to transfer a defensive midfielder who can aid Song or replace him after they sent Frimpong on loan to Premiership side Wolverhampton, but Vertonghen would be much more than that if he would join.

The Belgian international can cover the roles of a centre-back, defensive midfielder and full-back if needed and that would be an incredible addition for Arsene Wenger who is known to always have injury problems throughout the season.

Vertonghen appeared as a target for Arsenal right after the summer transfer period when Arsenal started having defensive problems. The Belgian plays as a defensive midfielder at the national team and as a central defender at the club team.

    1. Neither is ajax!

not many teams will win anything this season. in fact i would say only 1 team will win the league and only 1 will win the fa cup and i am pretty certain only 1 will win the carling cup. there is also a good chance that 2 of those 3 trophies could be won by the same club.

  1. Agree with Jack. Mr Solly Wenger and the board should invest in some “names” and stop trying to do everything on the cheap.
Why join a club with no ambition and a habit of losing matches in the last 10 minutes. Fulham ring any bells Mr W. Finishing in the top 4 will be an achievement, but speaking as a supporter, I cant see this happening unless good money is spent in the next 3 weeks.

  2. Players dont want to come to arsenal anymore. Not because we havent won anything in a while, but because Wenger and the board are not even showing a single ounce of ambition towards actually doing so… All they care about is that we qualify for the CL, and the net cash flow is positive.

  3. Stupid title and stupid article. How can you snub an offer that hasn’t been made?

In your first paragraph, you say: “Arsenal target Jan Vertonghen doesn’t seem very interested in the possibility of leaving his current club Ajax Amsterdam in spite of the numerous rumours which were linking him to Arsenal and other hot teams around Europe including Premiership Gunner rival Tottenham Hotspur.”

And of course you got this rumour from your well placed sources in Ajax, right? Instead of regurgitating tabloid rubbish, why not try to come up with something original?

  4. @jack- When was the last time Ajax won anything? You make no sense!
As bc said, only one club will win the FA Cup, one CC and one CL.
