Are Arsenal finally going to sign someone?

Arsenal have been linked with a move for Bolton defender Rob Holding all summer and in fact I think he was the first player to have his name pulled out of the transfer rumour hat come the end of last season. Now it seems as if the story has developed one step further, with the local Bolton media reporting that Holding has undergone a medical with Arsenal.

Arsenal are in dire need of a new centre back this summer, as current defensive options in Gabriel and Mertesacker do not seem convincing at all alongside the consistent regular Laurent Koscielny. I’m not entirely sure if Rob Holding would exactly be the right man to partner Koscienly in confidence either, due to his little experience in high level football, however Arsene Wenger may certainly have plans to implement Holding into the Arsenal side in the coming years.

According to The Bolton News, the 20 year old has travelled to London in order to have a medical with Arsenal ahead of a proposed move. The report states that a deal in the form of a £2.5 million bid was accepted by Bolton and now Arsenal look likely to wrap up their third summer signing.

The young Englishman may have a lot to learn and he may lack the experience needed to make an instant impact with the Gunners, but at £2.5 million for a English defender, it could be a worthwhile investment for Arsene Wenger’s side. I still think it’s vitally important Arsenal also look for a top quality centre back elsewhere in the market this summer, but Holding would certainly provide an extra option to Arsenal when the inevitable defensive crisis kicks in.

Aside from Holding, perhaps Wenger should finally give Chambers more of a chance? I’m desperate to see how our very own centre back prospect gets on, before making big money moves elsewhere.
