Arsenal agree deal for £12m Brazilian midfielder

It looks like Arsenal have at last lined up their first signing for the January transfer window as the Express is reporting that the Gunners have outbid Real Madrid in the race to sign the Cruzeiro midfielder Lucas Silva.

According to today’s report, Madrid have made a final bid of £9.5m for the super-talented 21 year-old, but Arsenal have agreed to meet the full asking price of £12 million to ensure that Silva is on his way to the Emirates.

There have been other transfer rumours linking Silva with a move to Chelsea and Man United recently, but with Arsenal’s record of allowing young talents to progress rapidly to the first team Silva is much more likely to be able to display his talents at the Emirates, especially with only the injury-prone Mikel Arteta and the ponderous Matthieu Flamini occupying his position at the moment. Both of them are not getting any younger and it is clear that Arsenal need a younger, stronger alternative to fill the role in the future.

£12m is a small price to pay for a youngster with the potential to become a superstar of the future and Silva could be yet another shrewd investment by Le Boss.
