This is not going to be the only defender transfer that Arsenal complete before the winter transfer window closes at the end of January, but it will be one down and will hopefully give Arsene Wenger and his transfer team more time to get the rest of their business done.

There have been Arsenal transfer rumours in the media recently suggesting that Wenger has been looking at signing two defenders in January. One of them is apparently going to be an experienced centre back, perhaps already playing in the Premier League, who can come straight in and cover for either Per Mertescker or Laurent Koscielny. The other is likely to be a young player with lots of talent and promise with a bright future ahead of him.

And it is the latter that Arsenal are on the verge of snapping up, according to a Metro report. The Spanish teenager Gorke Zabarte Moreno is currently on the books at Real Madrid but La Liga rules mean that they can not offer him a professional contract whereas the Gunners can, and have according to the Spanish paper Marca. The deal is said to be almost done and will be a real coup for Arsenal. But who will the inexperienced defender be?
