There is Big news for Arsenal in their hunt for a striker today, as it seems that the Gunners are going to miss out on yet another transfer target, this time Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain.

Arsenal have supposedly been chasing Higuain for years now. The Gunners reportedly wanted him when he was leaving Real Madrid and now he seems to be on his way from Napoli, to the Old Lady of Juventus.
Sky Sports are reporting this morning that Higuain is set for a medical with Juventus today ahead of a proposed move to Turin, after terms were finally agreed between the two Italian clubs. The Old Lady was always Arsenal’s main rival for the Argentinean striker, but Arsenal didn’t even seem to put up a fight for the player. It was rumoured that Wenger pulled out of the deal due to a leak of negotiations, however no reputable source had confirmed this, or about a bid from Arsenal, or even that any transfer negotiations were on going. Were The Gunners even interested?

Personally despite Higuain’s obvious quality, I’m not too disappointed to know that the Gunners have missed out. Obviously I want Arsenal to sign that top quality striker we so desperately need, but I don’t think Higuain was the right choice given the ridiculously high transfer fees that are being rumoured. Paying in excess of £60 million (yet to be confirmed) for a player who will be 29 this year does not seem like a good deal in the eyes of Arsenal football club and that money could be spent elsewhere on two very good players with plenty of years left at the highest levels of professional football. £60 million could buy us a Draxler, a Lukaku, a Mahrez, as well as a strong centre back to replace Mertesacker. In my opinion, although we should be disappointed to have lost out on what seems to be a fifth target after Vardy, Morata, Lacazette and Icardi, Higuain may not have been the perfect striker for our fitting.

Arsenal will now have to look elsewhere for a striker and with options running low, it’s starting to seem as if Arsene Wenger may once again fail to do the business he needs in the transfer window. On the bright side, at least Juventus may stop targeting Alexis Sanchez away from Arsenal now that they have their frontman.
