Arsenal Close To Bring Dutch Defender?

11

Dutch newspaper AD claims that Arsenal are ready to bring in Ajax’s international star Gregory Van Der Wiel, who at the age of 24 has already become an instrumental player for the Netherlands international squad.

After being closely linked with a move to Chelsea throughout the summer but apparently not agreeing over personal terms, the Dutchman seems to be now close to a move to London, where Arsenal’s Arsene Wenger might be his new coach. The Frenchman has admitted earlier this summer that they will still be looking to transfer a midfielder and a defender, so AD’s supposition makes sense given the fact that Sagna isn’t yet ready for action and the Gunners are short in the right-back.

Richard Law, an executive at Arsenal, has refused to speak about the link declaring:

“I cannot confirm or deny. We never make announcements on transfer issues.”

Arsene Wenger’s attempts to bring in Van der Wiel might succeed given the fact that the International defensive star has stated his strong interest to leave the Netherlands Eredivisie several times this summer. With Jenkinson now the only option for the right-back position for a while at Arsenal, the move is probably the best one Wenger can make at the moment except for bringing in a top midfielder.

  1. Decent player and a decent signing, however two clean sheets and no goals….a right back doesn’t seem the obvious solution.

  2. VDW is the age,a winner and also he has room to reach his full potential and wenger can help him do just that. He can be deployed as a rightback and can be used out wide because of his attack minded play and good delivering into to CF’s

  3. this is exactly the sort of signing we need. A good quality experienced international at a reasonable price.

The though of Jenkinson lining up in a champions league quarter final against Real Madrid doesn’t inspire confidence but this might.

Whatever spin Arsene puts on the squad we are 3 of these signings short of where we need to be. Let’s hope this is the first one and another couple follow either now or in January

  4. never surprised it won’t happen cos this bastard club that sold our beloved song will never go forward if they don’t change their ways…idiot club

  5. This time around i strongly believe wenger should know what he is doin bc we need titles this season. And as far as am concerned rumours will be rumours untill these player sign and seen playing on the field for us,because we don’t wanna hear a Nuri Sahin story anymore.

  6. Great signing? Did you see Holland in the Euro’12? lol

In comparison with Van Der Wiel’s Euro performances, Bendtner is the equivalent of Messi. So much for Ajax’s international star and so much for him being an instrumental player for the Netherlands international squad. Obviously they need a better instrumental player.

He might be ok at club level but he’s not amazing.

You say we have only Jenkinson as cover, well anybody who has really looked at Jenkinson will know he’s more than adequate. The guy plays every game like his life depends on it, he supports the club, his whole frickin’ family are in the crowd putting a critical eye over him because they too are all Arsenal fans and he is better at crosses than Walcott when going forward. Jenkinson’s solid performances this season are a big reason why we haven’t conceded a goal. I fail to see or understand why an Arsenal player is written off just because a bigger name is mentioned, especially a bigger name that’s mainly hype. It’s sick really.

It’s like Cazorla 36 more times this season putting in a performance like he did against Sunderland, then you having an orgasm when a bigger name player is possibly being bought to play in Cazorla’s position.

What the hell is wrong with Jenkinson?

    1) Jenkinson’s Weakness is?
    2) Jenkinson’s Fitness is?
    3) Jenkinson’s Workrate is?
    4) Jenkinson’s understanding with the rest of the defense is?
    5) Jenkinson’s Crossing is?
    6) Jenkinson’s costly mistakes are?
    7) Jenkinson’s defending is?
    8) Jenkinson’s tackling is?
    9) Jenkinson’s passing is?

If you honestly want to stand by the statement “With Jenkinson now the only option for the right-back position for a while at Arsenal, the move is probably the best one Wenger can make …”

You need to be able to answer those questions. The same goes for saying, “so AD’s supposition makes sense given the fact that Sagna isn’t yet ready for action and the Gunners are short in the right-back.”

Does this following statement not ring ANY alarm bells for you, “After being closely linked with a move to Chelsea throughout the summer but apparently not agreeing over personal terms.”

I’m pretty sure CHELSEA offered better personal terms than what we can.
