Arsenal desperately need three points tonight to remain in contention

Arsene Wenger has had a difficult January coping with an extensive injury list andwidespread criticism for not bring in reinforcements, but a win tonight against Bolton could begin the Gunners race back up the table.

Last night Liverpool won to leapfrog Arsenal into fifth place, but Chelsea’s (lucky) draw at fortress Swansea means that the Gunners could move to within three points of the coveted fourth place by the end of the day.

Jack Wilshere’s setback is a blow to Wenger, but with six players returning to the squad since the last League defeat, Arsenal should no longer be able to use the queue at the medical centre as an excuse any more.

With a win tonight and another against Blackburn at the Emirates on Saturday, Arsenal could draw level with Chelsea before the mis-firing Blues take on an in-form Manchester United on Sunday afternoon, therefore increasing the pressure on Andre Villas-Boas to get a result against the reigning Champions.

Considering Arsenal’s recent League form this may be an optimistic hope, but if Wenger can pull it off it will go some way to restoring wenger’s standing in the eyes of Arsenal fans.
