If Arsenal can pull this one off then it could turn out to be as important a piece of transfer business as Arsene Wenger did when he brought Alexis to the club during the summer transfer window. And the fact that Alexis was a team mate of the player in question, Gerard Pique, might be just the edge the Gunners need to beat Premier League rivals Chelsea and Man United to Pique’s signature.

According to a Daily Mail report, all three English clubs have already made offers to Barcelona for the central defender and it looks like they will sell as early as January. The 27-year old has fallen out in a big way with his new manager Luis Enrique. And it seems as though the club are sticking with Enrique, who is a Barca stalwart himself.

Pique has only started half of their games this season and is now relegated to the bench, if that, even though the Spanish club are having to use the inexperienced Marc Bartra and the midfielder Javier Mascherano because former Arsenal captain Thomas Vermaelen is not quite fit and their other new defender Jeremy Mathieu has picked up a knock.

And with Arsenal desperately in need of another top quality centre back, this fall out could not have come at a better time for Wenger.
