Even before Arsenal smashed four past the Turkish club Galatasaray with a second string side to make the Arsenal fans a lot happier than we had been following the dismal defeat by Stoke City last weekend, one former Gunner at least was still backing Arsene Wenger.

Nigel Winterburn actually went further than just supporting the Frenchman in the wake of the well publicised abuse at Stoke-on-Trent train station, he claimed that the Gunners were really moving forwards and that Wenger was really working towards bringing back the glory days.

He also told Talksport that our manager has changed his ways in the transfer market, as proved by the big money signings of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez and that us fans can expect a lot more from the Prof on this front in the near future, starting with the January transfer window that is just about three weeks away.

The former defender said, “My take on it is we are in a new period for Arsenal, particularly since the signing of Mesut Ozil.

“It looks as if the club has got some substantial funds now and I think Arsene Wenger needs to look at the situation and decide if he can get reinforcements in.

“The squad is too thin and there are certain areas they know need to be improved if they are going to challenge for the title next season, which Arsene Wenger is telling us is going to happen.

“I’d like to see him in charge simply because I’d like to see, with the money I believe is now available, whether he will change and look to bring in new players, and it is looking like he will.

“Arsenal have never spent £40milion before like they did with Ozil and £30million like they did on Alexis Sanchez. Now, if he went out and did that on a holding midfield player and maybe another centre-half then people would start to say Arsene Wenger is changing his ways.”

So do you think Winterburn is right and that Arsenal will keep spending the money needed to have a real go at the Premier League?
