This weekend, Arsenal return to FA Cup football having reached the semi-final stage, which is set to take place at Wembley on Saturday. Our opponents Wigan Athletic are a decent side, something we must give credit to, however Arsenal should still be expected to win. The only thing holding us back is our current form and I am sure that with the way that we are playing many may be feeling very similar how German youngster Serge Gnabry is feeling at the moment. However although he recognises the game will be tough, there is determination amongst the Arsenal players to get the job done.

On the game, Gnarby told Arsenal player: “It would mean a lot [to progress]. Since we won the game against Everton and moved on to the semi-finals, I have been thinking about it a lot. It is a chance for us to win a trophy this year, and we have a pretty good opportunity. It is going to be difficult, though. Wigan will do their best to win the game as well to get another shock in against a Premier League team. It is going to be a fight but we should face it as any other normal match: don’t be scared because they are in the [Championship]. We should be favourites and if we play our normal game, there should be no doubt that we can win it.”

Arsenal have fallen to pieces over the course of the past few months, having seen injuries and suspensions build up, whilst a poor string of performances from a couple of the quality players amongst the mediocre backups has not helped our cause. However now, as both Wenger and goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny said just the other day, the FA Cup is a chance for Arsenal to revitalise themselves in a new competition and show that we do still have the mentality to win a trophy.

Ending our 9 year drought for success looks easy on paper. Wigan, Hull and Sheffield United are not exactly big opponents, but they all have a sucker punch aspect about them that means they can see off any side on their day. Football isn’t all about skill and talent, there is a mental side, and on form any team can beat any other.

Arsenal fans will know all about bottling things away, we have done the same with the title this year, however let’s hope that they keep the physical and mental strength for this Saturday and in a bid to reach the final and hopefully progress onto winning the entire competition. As Gnabry states, a fight is expected and nobody thinks this game is going to be easy, so let’s put up a fight and show why the Gunners should now be winning this competition hands down!
