He has been the subject of a large number of Arsenal transfer rumours this summer and was certainly one of the strikers that the Arsenal fans were hoping that Arsene Wenger would add to the attacking options of the Gunners for the season ahead.

Plus it was thought that the Lyon and France international star Alexandre Lacazette would be more easily available and probably cheaper than other strikers linked with the club, such as Karim Benzema and Edinson Cavani. So the news reported by ESPN today is a real blow.

The report reveals that the player has spoken out about the rumours surrounding him and declared that he has no intention of leaving his French Ligue 1 club, for now at least. He is happy to continue with Lyon and after scoring 27 goals in just 33 league games last season and helping them into the Champions League, I can see his point.

Lacazette said, “What people say doesn’t mean much. I can still work well.

“I can show everyone that my mind is not in another place. I have already told the head coach and the president that I want to stay in Lyon.

“I am fully committed to our project for this season. Whatever happens outside stays outside. Personally, I know what I want for this season.

“I was happy with the way our fans reacted during the game. I received a lot of messages that were, you could say, “mean” on Twitter.

“That’s life, that’s football. I want to thank everybody that believes in me and supports me. Thank you to the public tonight.

“The best answer will be to have a great season and to prove to everyone that money is not what I am looking for. That’s football.”

Those are emphatic words from the Frenchman and so Arsenal will have to look elsewhere, but where?
