If the growing number of Arsenal transfer rumours are anywhere close to the mark then the Arsenal boss is actually going to do what most of us want for a change and sign a striker to cover for and compete with the French centre forward Olivier Giroud and the flying England forward Theo Walcott.

We do not yet know who that striker will be but there have been a number of names put forward by the football media, including the former Man United man Javier Hernandez, the Borussia Dortmund star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and now the Watford player Troy Deeney.

Whoever Arsene Wenger decides to sign, though, it will not be the first signing of the January transfer window. That honour is going to the Egypt international midfielder Mohamed Elneny. Today Metro are reporting that the 23-year old will arrive in London today to complete his move from the Swiss champions Basel.

So if the boss gets moving this week, Arsenal fans could be in dreamland with a double transfer in time for the next match, when Sunderland come to the Emirates on Saturday for the FA cup clash. Would a striker and a midfielder be enough or do the Gunners need more?
