There are quite a few ifs to this particular piece of Arsenal transfer news. If the Lyon and France forward Alexandre Lacazette is the number one transfer target for the Gunners is the main one and after that we do not know if Arsene Wenger is prepared to improve on the offer of around £30 million that the striker’s French club have already turned down.

If the answer to both of those questions is yes, then Arsenal fans could still be disappointed as Lacazette picked up what could turn out to be a transfer scuppering hip injury in the French version of the Community Shield, called the Trophee Des Champions at the weekend.

Lyon’s coach was reported in The Sun talking about the injury and the potential problem for Lacazette and he did not sound very upbeat about it to me, as he admitted that the talented and prolific front man was vital to his team.

Bruno Genesio said, “It’s worrying. It’s a big downside of the evening in addition to the defeat.

“This is our attack leader, he is needed. It’s too early to tell about the injury. There will be examinations early this week.”

Arsenal fans will be just as hopeful that the injury is not too bad and that Wenger goes back in for the player before the transfer window shuts. If not, who will the Gunners turn to next?
