There are a number of players being linked with Arsenal Football Club for that troublesome defensive midfield role, and one of those who the Arsenal fans seem most keen on is the Germany international Sami Khedira. But the 27-year old did nothing to enhance his chances of drawing a transfer bid from Arsene Wenger with last night’s display at the World Cup finals.

The Real Madrid midfielder has recovered from his cruciate ligament in the nick of time to join the Arsenal trio of Per Mertesacker, Lukas Podolski and his good friend Mesut Ozil. After the first group game, Germany were looking like a good bet to lift the trophy, but last night they toiled against a hard working and determined Ghana side.

The Africans will probably feel unlucky that they did not take all three points, as they dominated much of the game and created plenty of chances. The Germany boss had seen enough from Khedira and replaced him with Schweinsteiger in the second half, in a bid to shore op the centre of the pitch and give more protection to Hummels and our BFG, who struggled all night to cope with the pace of Ghana.

One poor game does not make Khedira a bad player, of course, and we should remember that he is still working his way back to full fitness, but will Wenger have second thoughts after seeing him struggle against a pressing team?
