Arsenal are set to make an early move in the January transfer window and inflict further pain on poor old Sam Allardyce apparently.

After leaving the West Ham manager stunned and complaining after goals from Cazorla and Welbeck, along with a somewhat controversial decision to disallow an early goal from Alex Song, meant Arsenal left Upton Park with all three points yesterday, Arsene Wenger is now preparing to poach his central defender Winston Reid.

According to a Daily Mail report, Arsenal scouts have been watching the New Zealand international in every game since November and are ready to make a £4 million bid for him early in January.

Wenger and his staff are apparently confident of completing the deal as well, as Reid is asking for too much in wages from West Ham and they know that he will walk away on a free transfer in the summer. The centre back has plenty of Premier League and international experience and so would hopefully fit straight into the Gunners team without the need for a long acclimatisation period and provide strong cover and competition for Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker.

So is Reid set to be the first Arsenal signing of 2015?
