Arsene Wenger is faced with quite a balancing act as he looks for new players to bring into the Arsenal team. Let’s not worry for now whether the Frenchman will change his ways and start spending money. I assume he is well aware that the Arsenal fans are expecting some big name signings and will not be content with a few unheard of youngsters.

The top players, however, will have other big clubs after them, as we have already seen with Juventus, Higuain and Jovetic. These players will be thinking about big wages and trophies, so might see Arsenal as a risk. The players who want to come to Arsenal may not be the quality that Wernger is looking for, so we need to find a balance.

Younes Belhanda of Montpellier and Etienne Capoue of Toulouse may just be the answer. They both seem keen on a move to the English Premier League, while Wenger is reportedly keen on both. They are both young players who could be expected to improve and are both full internationals, but are they what we are looking for?

Capoue is the type of technically gifted and strong defensive midfielder that could be a long term replacement for Abou Diaby, whose place in the France national team he has now taken. He wants to leave his French club and wants Champions League football, which gives Arsenal the edge over his other main suitor, Tottenham. This is the most important position that Wenger needs to fill this summer, though, and he really needs to get it right.

Belhanda is more of an attacking minded midfielder, but he is also very versatile. He definitely wants to join Arsenal and his former team mate Olivier Giroud is trying to mediate between him and the club. He can play in the middle, but also on the wings, which is an area we need to strengthen, but is he good enough? There is only one man who can decide that.

  1. Pogba ,kondbogua,bender, capoue,alaba(new link) wanyama
Acm fabregas wilshere Rosisky cazorla or wenger choice

  2. Er, the most important position to fill is striker, and then an extra centre back. Ramsey and Arteta did well as a defensive midfield pair towards the end of the season.

One thing we don’t need is yet another attacking central midfielder.

  3. hw can some1 say we dnt need a def midfielder. Didnt u see hw we were bulled in midfd becos dy re nt strong enuf if nt for ko nd meter pls we wayama or coupue

    1. I never said we don’t need a defensive midfielder, I said it’s more important to get a striker, centre back and right back.

Yes, at the beginning of the season the defence was poor, but that was also because of the centre backs, not just the defensive midfielders. But Arsenal finished the season by conceding 37 goals, the lowest in the league. In the last ten games they only conceded 5 goals. The defence improved a lot later in the season, including the defensive midfielders.

  4. We need depth in our squad. We need both players and a striker that is dreadful in the 18 yard box.
