Can anybody shed some light on the mysterious world that is the football transfer window? We Arsenal fans have suffered more than most in recent years, mainly because Arsene Wenger was trying to buy a Ferrari with a couple of boxes of water damaged umbrellas and some vouchers for the gift shop.

What I really don’t understand is why we have to wait until the last few days to get the deals done. Wenger, and the other managers to be fair, have had all summer to get the players they want but there is always this last minute scramble. As long as we get what we need, I suppose, it is alright, and it seems as though the Gunners are about to really get going with the last few pieces of transfer business.

It appears that the Greece and Borussia Dortmund defender with a name that gives commentators and my spelling skills a real test, is really being targeted by Wenger. IN fact, The Express are reporting that we have already entered at least one bid and have now increased the offer to just under £16 million for Sokratis Papastathopoulos.

And then we have the news from the Metro that another Arsenal bid has been put in, this time for William Carvalho of Sporting Lisbon and the report also says that the Gunners are really confident of the £21.3 million offer being accepted.

Maybe I won’t have to spend all day Monday biting my nails and checking the internet after all, but I’m not holding my breath.
