The Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger might face even further problems in his attempt to sign Montpellier’s striker Olivier Giroud, as Atletico Madrid seem to have grown an interest in him.
It was tough enough for Wenger to have to fight with German side Bayern Munich for his services, given the fact that Arsenal haven’t managed to win a trophy in over 7 seasons, while the Bundesliga side are playing against Chelsea in the Champions League final.
Now Wenger will also have to fend off interest from Spanish side Atletico, as the Europa League winners are interested in enhancing their squad even further for next season’s run.
Arsene Wenger has been searching high and wide for a top target man who he can bring to the squad, especially given the fact that captain Robin Van Persie’s situation is still very much unknown. Podolski already joined, but he’s not quite a target man and Wenger doesn’t want to risk being left uncovered like last season when Nasri and Fabregas both left on short notice.
Giroud has impressed in the last two seasons of the French Ligue 1 scoring a bucket load of goals for Montpellier and bringing the French side to their first title in the history.
