We already know that Arsenal are going to be without the France international full back Mathieu Debuchy for a while, hopefully not as long as the three months that have been mentioned by some sources. And one of the reasons for Arsene Wenger handing the 19-year old Hector Bellerin his full Arsenal debut was the lack of options to cover the Frenchman.

Apparently our new defender from Southampton Calum Chambers was ill with Tonsilitis although he did make the bench in Dortmund. Then you have the options of Mathieu Flamini or Francis Coquelin but I think that Wenger will stick with Bellerin for the away game with Aston Villa on Saturday.

Flamini was not on the bench as he had a slight thigh strain, while Coquelin has little more first team experience than Bellerin, especially at right back. These things, allied with the fact that Arsenal need a win more than we need to not lose, suggests to me that the young Spaniard will get the nod.

It was a really tough debut for Bellerin but he coped okay and even grew into the game. His debut is out of the way and so are a lot of his nerves and his attacking abil;ity could be very important if we want all three points at Villa Park. Would you stick with him?

  1. I wish the lad well but he was miles out of his depth – overwhelmed by the speed and sophistication. They new what he would do before he had even thought of it. Well done Wenger – one month into the season and scratching about for a defence! Meanwhile 4 or 5 experienced international in more forward positions can’t even get a start. Somebody explain rotation to him.
