Can England heroics help Chambers into the Arsenal first team?

It will be interesting to see how Arsene Wenger sets up the defensive side of his Arsenal team next season. With a lot of the summer transfer window still to go we are not even sure which players the Frenchman will have to call upon, as the current Arsenal transfer rumours being focused on the attacking side of things does not mean that Wenger is not looking to sign another defender as well.

The chances are that Arsenal will be using the new back three formation, at least some of the time, but who will be the first choices when we do and what about when and if we go to four at the back? Laurent Koscielny is probably a given in either formation but after that you have Mustafi, Monreal, Mertesacker and the new summer signing Sead Kolasinac all competing with the two youngsters Rob Holding and Calum Chambers, with the last named likely to be sold this summer according to the experts at www.online-betting.org, although the player himself thinks he will be doing his pre-season at the Emirates.

“This season has been so important for me, playing games as a centre-back,” Chambers said. “The experience I have gained in that position just from playing is so valuable to me. I just feel it’s just pushed me on another level.

“I want to have a good tournament anyway and I’m focusing on here. If I have a good tournament it’s great and I’ll be going back to Arsenal for pre-season and doing the best I can and seeing what happens.”

Holding played most of the games after Arsene Wenger changed the formation at the end of the season, but many may have forgotten about Chambers after he spent all season on loan with Middlesborough and then Holding grabbed a lot of credit for his part in the strong end to the season, but it is the former who has been a regular starter with the England under 21s.

The 22-year old has been an ever present in Poland and has helped the Young Lions make it to the semi-final and I am sure that Wenger is taking note and will do so even more should England win the competition. Would that be a stepping stone for Chambers to get back into the Arsenal team do you think?
