Tony Adams: Arsenal have no finance

Arsenal have no cash?Tony Adams: Arsenal have no finance

According to reports out today and speaking at a national event Tony Adams has said he thinks Arsenal have no finances.

Adams reportedly said: “People on the board, and the fans, want more.”

“But they can’t actually back it up with financial weight to do it. They’re not financing him (Wenger). I don’t think Arsenal have got any finance.

“I don’t know who it is, but I think there’s someone on the board who’s not pro-Arsene. I don’t know who it is, but that’s what I’ve heard.”

“The fans have got very high standards now. I remember when I first broke into the team, losing 4-0 at Maine Road and the fans were doing the conga. They didn’t expect much.”

“But they expect a lot now. They’re crying out for experience and the fans are not silly, they know the team needs experience at the back and in central midfield.”

“Arsene knows, too. He’s not a silly man. But you tell me a player they can get for the money they’ve got. It’s unrealistic.”

I discussed this just the other night with a Man Utd fan. I was in the midst of laying into him because; as we all know United lost the champions League final to a wonderful performance from Barcelona!…Anyway then the discussion moved on to transfers and who would leave Man Utd, what transfers we could expect this summer, etc…

I admited my doubts about the fiancial situation at Arsenal; surely if Wenger really did have the reported £30 million at his disposal, I think that was the figure being mentioned last season wasn’t it? Yeah surely Wenger would spend this summer and get some big guns into the team?

I’m just praying we do because otherwise we’ll end up out of the top 4 next season…not good.

Wenger calls for more support from fans

Arsene Wenger calls for more support from Arsenal fansWenger calls for more support from fans

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has told the club’s supporters they have failed to show his side sufficient support.

Trailing at half-time to Everton on Saturday, Arsenal were booed off at the break at the Emirates Stadium before they eventually won the game 3-1.

“I don’t feel that from the media or the supporters this team gets the support that it deserves,” Wenger told the club’s annual general meeting.

Wenger could spend £30 million on a player

Arsene Wenger could spend £30 million on a playerArsenal Director Danny Fizsman said that Arsene Wenger could spend £30 million on a player if he chose to do so…

Fizsman said; “If he (Wenger) said ‘I want this guy and he’s £30m, can I buy him?’, the answer is yes. Absolutely yes,”

So I here you all cry; why didn’t Wenger immediately start strenghtening the sqaud as soon as Gilberto, Hleb and Flamini left in the summer transfer window?!

Well, personally and as an Arsenal fan, of course! I think Wenger has and is doing the right thing for Arsenal Football Club. Wenger has told the Independent; “When we decided to build the stadium I wanted to anticipate the possibility of financial restrictions, so I concentrated on youth.”

“I also felt the best way to create an identity with the way we play football, to get players integrated into our culture, with our beliefs, our values, was to get them as young as possible and to develop them together.

“I felt it would be an interesting experiment to see players grow together with these qualities, and with a love for the club.”

So the cynic in my says, is this all a cover up by Arsenal Directors and WEnger has really been told there is no money to spend?? Let me know what you think…I think Wenger is right and certainly not having to cope with the ego of a player costing £30 million isn’t something he’ll miss I’m sure!

Wenger insists Adebayor is staying

Adebayor is staying at ArsenalYou might need to turn the volume up a bit when you watch this, the sound quality isn’t the best!

Watch Arsene Wenger talk in a press conference about Adebayor staying with us for next season and interestingly see how he defends Adebayor and stands up for him. Wenger also comments on how he sees other foreign clubs affecting things for Premier League clubs…

Wenger says one more midfielder

 Arsene Wenger

Arsene Wenger says he’s really after one more midfield player following the departures of Flamini, Hleb and Silva this summer. At least it looks like all the speculation surrounding Adebayor’s proposed move to Milan has died down, for now…

Wenger said: “Alex Song is going to the Olympics, while Abou Diaby and Cesc Fabregas have yet to start pre-season.”

“We will need one more body, though there is no special name on the list.”

“If we find a reasonable target then we will do it. We have some time. We have until 31 August.”

Of course Aaron Ramsey’s 2 appearences in pre-season games could mean he starts more Premiership games next season. Wenger commented: “He is in the plans for the new season like all the players today.

“It depends on the performances and their quality and you could see that some young players could be very close to the first team.”

Wenger confesses to alarming club policy of selling players

This is quite an alarming but truthful assesment by Arsene Wenger of the situation faced by English Premiership clubs, and the current situation at Arsenal.

Arsene Wenger

Wenger has said that we’ll probably have to sell star players every season for another 2 decades, at least, because of the finance deal we have committed to for the Emirates staduim and the way the club finances are run. Wenger told News of the World;

“The strategy of the club is to sell every year and to buy less expensive players,”

“We manage at Arsenal to maintain all our football ambitions - national and European - while having to free up - for 17 more years - an annual surplus of £24million to pay for our stadium.”

“The club’s strategy is to favour the policy of youngsters ahead of stars and to count on the collective quality of our game.”

“If I had the power to change anything basic in football, it would be the transfer system which makes mercenaries of players,”

“If they are bad ones, they stay and, if they are good, they think only of leaving.”

“I have fought for them to earn a very good living, but I impose respect for their contract upon them.”

I wonder if he’s referring to any Arsenal players there?! Hleb and Adebayor perhaps!?

I think he’s right, players should be made to honour their contractual agreements otherwise they’re not worth the paper they’re written on. Players should be heavily financially penalised if they try or want to move clubs within their agreed contractual term. Also if players choose to move clubs and break their contracts this should be reflected in the overall value of their transfer.

Yeah right dream on! Football clubs will do whatever it takes to secure the services of the best football players in the world. They make far too much money from it not to…

Wenger insists trophies will come

Arsene Wenger says the attacking style of football we play will bring the first load of silverware to The Emirates, but he conceded the Premier League title is now out of reach.

Unfortunately we’re going to be trophyless for a third season after the 2-1 defeat by Manchester United on Sunday. Wenger said “We will continue to play the way we do but better,” Wenger said. “The trophies will come.

“The main target is to keep the team together. They are absolutely amazing.”

“Arsene is a great man and a great manager,” said striker Adebayor, “He has achieved a lot of things with this club. For sure he is going to be here. He has a vision to bring a lot of good players to this club like Alex Hleb, Kolo Toure, Emmanuel Eboue, Cesc Fabregas and William Gallas.

I feel we have done a lot for the Premier League this season by the way we have promoted it

I suppose I don’t really need to say it but we’re 9 points behind United with just four fixtures remaining, and 3 points behind Chelsea. We should now just enjoy the rest of the football left this season and look forward to the next one.

Wenger was disapointed after Sunday and he suggested that decisions went against Arsenal at Old Trafford were unfortunately a trend for the whole season.

“Overall, I am very proud of my team’s performance,” he said.

“We had to be exceptionally strong after the Liverpool game - and we were.

“I feel the difference between success and failure is very little. We do not feel there is much between ourselves, United and Chelsea when it comes to technical ability and quality.

“So it is difficult to accept we will not win the title.

“I want to win trophies and it is sad we cannot win a trophy this season.

“On the other hand, I feel we have done a lot for the Premier League this season by the way we have promoted it.”

Wenger adamant we’ll get the double!

Arsene Wenger is still adamant that we can still bring home the Champions league and Premier league double this season. He said he still believes we can finish as champions in the league but we need to win at United on Sunday. “I also believe we can win the Champions League. I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t think that.”

The game at Anfield tonight is pivotal for both Arsenal and Liverpool, to be honest Liverpool have nothing else to play for this season with them lagging behind the top 3 in the Premership. Anyway the Champions league 2nd round, quarter final game at Anfield is a must win for us, we cannot afford to start as we did on Saturday and we need to go for the win within the 90 minutes. I hope we don’t leave it until we have to score, we should be looking to beat Liverpool convincingly in the first half of the game.

Wenger put pay to the rumours that Fabregas is suffering from fatigue, having played 41 games this season, he said; “I still think Cesc has enough in the tank, even if he has played a lot of games.”

Don’t forget we lost to Chelsea in the 2004 Champions League quarter final, Arsene said “We drew at Chelsea 1-1 and then lost at home to a last-minute goal, so we can take an example from that,”

Comon Arsenal!!
