Arsenal still remain top of the Premier League despite failing to come away from the Hawthorns with all 3 points against West Brom, and this was largely down to the fact we struggled to get our game going. With Arsenal’s unbeaten record since the opening day of the Premier League still intact, we are certainly performing much higher than most expected, however now the Premier League is interrupted by the second international break of the campaign so far.

International breaks are always a pain and usually it means that fright is struck into the minds of ever club, especially Arsenal because of our injury problems. Usually concern is caused because every so often we have seen our star player pick up an injury on international duty and it’s so annoying because there’s nothing that the club can do.

However this time around it’s a little bit different. Although we are still fearful of players picking up injuries, now we also have to consider that perhaps this international break has arrived at just the right time for Arsenal. Our failure to get all 3 points at West Brom, surely would have dented our mentality, however the break may give the team a chance to get away from these thoughts and get our game right back on track and ready for return.

In terms of fitness, Per Mertesacker, Laurent Koscielny and Tomas Rosicky have all supposedly pulled out of their national teams with injuries, however my suspicion is perhaps they want to make sure that their fitness is regained to concentrate with Arsenal, especially with the two defenders who have played a lot of football already this season. Plus the likes of Cazorla, Walcott, Sagna and Podolski are not at further risk and will be two weeks closer to their comeback when normal football service is resumed.

Overall we may have slipped up against West Brom, but it isn’t the end of our chances and we are still top of the table for now. However I certainly think this break has come at the right time because it gives both the players and the management team a chance to breathe, take the situation into account and understand how our mentality cannot drop if we are serious about competing amongst the best this season in every competition!
