Arsene Wenger has apparently registered an interest with Chelsea FC over the possible loan of Fernando Torres, with the Frenchman hoping to bolster his attacking options before the transfer window shuts tomorrow.

Arsenal currently have Olivier Giroud in great goalscoring form, and Wenger is hoping to keep his star-striker motivated by upping the competition for a the central striker role. Having lost Lukas Podolski to injury, the North-London club are left with Theo Walcott or Yaya Sanogo as their only viable alternatives. Sanogo has only just arrived and is very much still learning his trade, whereas Theo is widely encouraged to play out wide by Wenger.

The West-London club on the other hand, have just completed the signing of Samuel Eto’o from Anzhi Makachkala, and it is yet to be seen whether the Blues’ Hierarchy would be willing to negotiate. Their fans almost certainly would like to see the back of him.

One obvious stumbling block would be the player’s £175K+ wages, with the Gunners unwilling to pay the full fee. Chelsea could be keen to lower their wage bill following the introduction of the Fair Play regulations.

The Spaniard was once a demon in front of goal and a change of scenery might just spark something. I would not be over the moon to see Torres arrive, but I could see glimpses of the old Liverpool Torres last season. A loan deal would appear to be low-risk and might just add something special to the squad. We are in desperate need of squad depth and I expect a busy next 24 hours…
