It has now become clear that Ajax’s defensive star Jan Vertonghen will leave the Eredivisie in the summer, after he has consistently expressed his interest in joining the Premier League.

Ajax’s manager Frank De Boer admits that it will be hard to lose Vertonghen who is now one of the most wanted players on Wenger’s shortlist. According to the Dutchman it will be very hard to replace the Belgian international, but it’s the right move for him.

“Jan has seen the light,” said De Boer. “Not only on the pitch, but away from it.

“I have been very critical of him and, at some point, he must have become fond of me.

“His development is wonderful to see. If he leaves, I think it is right.

“Earlier, I thought it would have been unwise.

“It will not be easy to replace him.”

Vertonghen’s move to Arsenal has been anticipated by the English press and the Gunners fans all season long, but the media also speaks about a possible move across town to arch rivals Spurs. The Belgian’s future will be much different at Arsenal than Tottenham, mainly because Wenger will surely make use of his ability to play on many different positions across the defensive side of the pitch.

Where do you think he’ll go?

  1. Arsenal would disappoint the fans and team mates alike if we don’t sign him and do something stupid like letting him go to our rivals. This would send out a bad message.
    Its good we have pudolski.
Papisse Cisse has a buy out clause of eight to ten million.
This guy is better than Demba Ba!

  2. Reckon Vetonghen wil join his mate Vermalen @ Arsenal as or Cisse he was available @ Freiburg feom last year – Arsenal enquired but didnt do anything about it as usual!
