The Arsenal defender and club captain Thomas Vermaelen has backed his Gunners’ side to bounce back and answer their critics following a recent slump in form.

After making a flying start to the campaign, Arsene Wenger’s side have had a rather forgettable past week, having lost twice at home, to Bundesliga side Borrusia Dortmund and London rivals Chelsea. But, Arsenal’s Belgian skipper seems confident that his Gunners side can get their season back on track.

Speaking to The Daily Star, he said: ” We’ve won a lot more games than we have lost this season so we should have a lot of confidence that we can beat Liverpool. We are top of the league so one defeat shouldn’t take away our belief. So now it is important to respond quickly and bounce straight back against Liverpool. We just need to keep going like we have been doing in previous weeks and it’s good that we have the chance to put things right so quickly.”

Well, I have to say I completely agree with the skipper, a lot has been made recently in the media in regards to the club having lost two games. People forget that this is only our third defeat of the season and we’re still on top of the Premier League with a very decent position in our Champions League group as well, and mind you, that’s no easy group! In all honesty, the situation has been blown out of proportion by the media. Two losses to two very respectable opponents certainly do not equate to a ‘crisis’.

With high-flying Liverpool visiting The Emirates on Saturday, Arsenal have the ideal chance to get back on track and silence the media outlets after a week of criticism. Let’s hope the Gunners can capitalise and get back to winning ways against the Reds.
