Juventus have halted Arsenal’s transfer plans yet again. This time they have stolen Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain from us.

Reports have been circling around the press for the last week that Arsenal had Higuain in the bag and it was just up to the player to agree the deal. Arsenal had apparently had a bid worth around £20 Million accepted from Real Madrid and it was all a done deal.

Juventus have now popped in and offered a tiny bit more than Arsenal and their offer was made the priority. Higuain himself has said that he would prefer a move to Juventus showing that once again Arsenal are victims of their own success (joke).

This exact same thing happened just a few days ago with Fiorentina forward Stevan Jovetic who seemed like he was well on his way to Arsenal until……. Juventus arrived at the last minute with a bigger bid to ruin the whole deal.

I would have welcomed both of these players to the club because they would bring something different that could only benefit the team.

Gonzalo Higuain has the ability to be a 30 goal-a-season striker if he plays regularly as he proved at Real Madrid before Karim Benzema came along. Higuain was also the only player at the 2010 world cup to score a hat-trick and he was struggling for game time in that Argentina side because of the amount of world class strikers they had. Try competing with Lionel Messi, Diego Milito, Carlos Tevez, Sergio Aguero and more for game time.

Jovetic on the other hand is a player who I think would work well as a supporting striker but he still has a goal or two in him. He is the kind of player who likes to mess with the opposition defence by making runs all over the place to send the defensive formation into disarray. He is also very skilfull on the ball, he likes to dribble past players, pull off amazing passes and bring team-mates into the game to rip the defence apart.

I would love to see both these players at the club but Juventus seem to have some kind of personal vendetta to buy every player that Arsenal are going for. All this after we loaned them `the greatest striker in the world` Nicklas Bendtner, too.

  1. I am still hopeful that we will have at least 6 top notch attacking players with goals in them cazorla walcott podolski and giroud all have goals in them. So just two more will give us what we need. Along with our other promising youngsters chamberlain campbell gnabry aneke afobe ryo eisfeld sanogo and akpom who can give us the depth we need.

Our midfield can boast wilshire arteta ramsey rosicky diaby coquelin but I feel we need at least one more there to add to our promising youngsters like frimpong and yennaris.

  2. This comment will probably get slated because it says something that could be construed as being bad about Wenger and AKB’s can’t see any reason but…

I think the reason some top players don’t want to come is that they know Wenger likes to ‘reinvent’ players even if they are already world class.
He will play them out of position and try to ‘mould’ them to his way.

For some young players this simply doesn’t work (Vela?)and they fail only to flourish elsewhere, for established world class players it is a bit insulting.

I don’t think Higuain would want to be ‘taught’ how to play football.

I could be wrong but it could be one of the reasons, a little extra money isn’t enough to swing it for ambitious players.

  3. Hm, lets not beat up ourselves mate, this might be a blessing in disguise. I really dont think Higuain is top notch striker in EPL kind of football.Look at Aguero and Tevez and then ask yourself: why have’nt they score at least double figures? Give me Benteke any day of the week.
This might also help Wenger to focus on the players who have EPL experience like Diame who would bring power and trickery in the midfield. The problem with Diame is the travel to ACN every 2 years leaving us high and dry. Players with EPL experience are more valuable than foreigners. How about talking to Chelski and “tongue-in-cheek” ask for a chance to buy Lukaku? Now that would be a proper fire power while Chelski are faffing with big money
    Falcao.

  4. Vucinic, Giovinco and Matri should not be very pleased. And any of them is better then Giroud and Gervinho…
