Discounting the foul mouthed robot from Futurama, there are still two people called Bender that have recently been linked with a transfer to Arsenal this summer. Arsene Wenger is said to have been tracking the twin brothers Sven and Lars Bender for some time, but according to a Daily Mail report, the Frenchman has decided to go for the latter.

The paper claims that Wenger tried to bring Bayer Leverkusen’s Lars to Arsenal last summer, but the Germany international, who missed out on the World Cup in Brazil due to injury, preferred another season in the Bundesliga. We don’t know if that has changed, but could soon find out of the news of us making contact with the German club are true.

I just wonder if the Gunners are aiming at the wrong target. Lars is a quality player, but he is more of an all-round midfielder like our own Aaron Ramsey, while his brother Sven, who plays for Borussia Dortmund, is more of a traditional defensive midfielder. Isn’t that what we really need?

If this Arsenal transfer rumour is accurate, it suggests that our French manager does not think so and is just trying to sign a younger, stronger faster version of what we have already got in the form of the Arsenal vice-captain Mikel Arteta. Do you think we are going for the wrong Bender brother?
