Stevan Jovetic is a player we all know well and has reportedly been a long term transfer target for Arsene Wenger and Arsenal for a number of seasons now. He is a Montenegrin international striker and has been at Seria A side Fiorentina for a number of years. Over recent years Jovetic has stated his wish to remain in Italy, however in recent weeks he has become more open on the transfer speculation surrounding his future.
Earlier this month Jovetic said: “I’ve heard about Arsenal’s interest. It’s a pleasure for me to be on the radar of such a big club. I’ve always had an affinity with Arsenal. It’s a major club with a big tradition, one of the biggest in Europe. Maybe one day I will play there but I have a contract with Fiorentina.”
According to a story in Metro, FIFA agent Guido Di Domenico claims Stevan Jovetic is set to join Arsenal in the summer.
Di Domenico, who’s one of the most connected agents in Italy, said: “Jovetic was among the possible options for Juventus, but my information is that he’s already given the go ahead to move to Arsenal. He seems fascinated by their project.”
I think these comments may have been taken slightly out of proportion and that the report has certainly been influenced by Jovetic’s earlier comments but still it’ll be a massive coup for Arsenal if there is any truth of a pre-agreement.
There’s no doubting he’s a quality player and a much needed striker, so should fit nicely into the team and although he isn’t what I would call world class, he is still a top player that any team would want to have. The interest from Man City and Juventus confirms this and if the story is true, I for one am definitely surprised we’ve managed to beat off the likes of their status and financial benefits, however there is also another reason to not get too excited.
Stories like this come out every single year and last year it was with Lukas Podolski and so as we can see, there was some truth in it, but it’s not always the case. There’s also transfer rules and regulations that we must abide by which I’m sure you’re all be aware of and so this is another reason why we shouldn’t get too excited. Still I’m happy to be linked with such a quality player and the consistent reports every week, almost suggest confirmation that Arsenal is interested.
