Latest injury news – Blow for Arsenal, boost for Liverpool

This is just about typical of the luck Arsenal have had in recent years on the injury front. About a week ago it was looking as though our opponents for the midweek Premier League match this week would be severely hit by injury problems, especially on the defensive side of things, while Arsenal would have our star striker Alexis Sanchez back after almost two months on the sidelines with a hamstring strain.

Both of these things have turned out to be wrong, though, as Arsene Wenger revealed in his press conference on the Arsenal website that the Chile international star would not be ready to face Liverpool at Anfield and he might not even be fit for the trip to Stoke at the weekend.

The Frenchman said, “We think he will be short for Wednesday, he has a chance to be available for Sunday [against Stoke]. He is always keen to play. If you listen to Alexis, he can always play – even when he is injured. We try to be cautious. With a muscular injury you never exactly how big the risk but he is very close. If you look at him training he is very close.”

So that means that Arsenal will not be as potent up front as we might have been but that would still not be a big problem if Liverpool had none of their central defenders back as they had to face Exeter in the FA cup without any. But Jurgen Klopp has been handed the boost of not just one but two of his centre backs being fit again, as The Mirror has reported.

The German said, “The situation is better now. Kolo will be available.

“Mama wants to be available. Hopefully we can use him.”

So it looks like Liverpool will have Sakho and Toure at the heart of their defence when Arsenal come to town. Will they be enough to stop Arsenal’s Alexis free attack?
