Hugo Lloris. Once a target for Arsenal. Now a key man for Spurs. But is his injury set to help the gunners out in the race for 4th place?

Its unknown the length of Lloris’ injury but the fact they have had to call back a reserve keeper from loan, it would suggest that he may be sidelined for a few weeks at least.
When Lloris first joined he was frozen out by Brad Friedel and it looked like they had wasted a lot of money on a very good goalkeeper, but as the season has progressed Hugo Lloris has been a key part of Tottenham Hotspur’s campaign, with the French International keeping our North London rivals in games on various occasions.

But now he is injured Spurs have had to fall back on Friedel, and although I hate to say it, the American isn’t exactly a bad keeper to fall back upon. But still he hasn’t been as good as Lloris and this could be something that could be exploited in the Spurs team. Just like Arsenal, Spurs often have a dodgy defence and with the likes of Everton, Man City and Chelsea coming up, Spurs could be dropping some very important points if Friedel cannot perform to his best.

Of course lets get things straight, this wouldn’t even matter if we had performed on a more consistent level over the season and not struggled to pick up easy points, however this is the case and it’s come to the stage that we are relying on our top 4 rivals of Spurs and Chelsea to drop points and in the case, exploit injuries that have occurred to them.

It ridiculous that this is even a subject, because I think it’s terrible we are having to look at players being injured as being a positive, however because of the situation it’s a factor to consider that perhaps this might contribute to a potential spurs downfall, much like last season.

Still, this is the position we are in and hopefully we can carry on these top performances until the end of the season. With a game in hand and 4 points behind Spurs, its going to be a close run in once again.

  1. I think we are clutching at straws here – Friedel is still an excellent goalkeeper and AVB had to basically force Lloris into the goalkeeper position at the beginning of the season. I am keeping the faith, the Arsenal have done it before when it looked like it wasn’t going to happen.

Arsenal are a good side despite losing one of the best strikers in the world and I still think a top 4 finish is possible. Spurs have shown some weakness as of late and they traditionally fall off near the end of the season. Lennon is playing, but he looks like he is still carrying an injury. He is the sparkplug for their team this year. When you’re behind you have to hope for your opponent to falter, but you also need to win – so lets keep it positive!
