According to reports today, Arsenal have signed former centre back and club legend Tony Adams. I know we are on the lookout for a new centre back but talk about getting desperate Arsene, Adams is 49 years old! Bit past his prime if you ask me!

Of course Adams isn’t returning to the first team, instead will be joining up with the coaching staff at Arsenal and will apparently be working alongside fellow legend Thierry Henry, amongst the youth ranks.
Adams has been in and out of the game since his retirement and his last managerial involvement came five years ago back in 2011. Arsenal however have given Adams the opportunity to rekindle his involvement in football and where better place to return, than with the club he devoted his entire career to.

Adams may be lacking in management skills, with no real success stories with any of the sides he has managed, however what he lacks in that area, he certainly makes up in experience, passion and commitment. These are values that Adams will be keen to infuse on the youngsters coming through the Arsenal youth ranks and if he can teach one or two of them how to defend like he did, then perhaps we won’t have such a struggle in defence at times.

Adams is the latest ex-Gunner to return to the club with Thierry Henry having joined last year, as well as more notably Steve Bould being at Arsene Wenger’s side. Adams could be the first of many former faces in coaching at Arsenal, with Dennis Bergkamp also rumoured to be a possible interest of Arsenal in the management department. With the regularity Pires also has with coming back to Arsenal, I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw a whole host of legends holding positions in coaching at the club, in the coming seasons.
