I think that most of us Arsenal fans will be happy with any win over Liverpool tonight, whether it comes through a lucky goal bouncing in off someone’s bum or even a dodgy referee decision. Because after our shaky start against West Ham, Arsenal are already under pressure and this early game against a direct rival has become more important than ever.

But as well as all three points, our club record signing Mesut Ozil is looking for a real performance and a statement of intent from the Gunners. And as he talks about the way we demolished Brendan Rodgers and his players at the Emirates stadium, he has every right to feel confident that we can do it again.

As reported by the Evening Standard, the Germany international feels that all the damage was done in that 4-1 win by our excellent start and the way we never gave them a chance to get a foothold in the game, while his own superb free kick for the second goal was a key moment.

Ozil said, “I remember that we delivered a really convincing display. In the first half we decided the game because we had a high level of concentration and wanted to utilise our potential.

“We want to do that again this time. We’re at home and we know exactly how we can beat Liverpool. That’s what we want to do on Monday.

“During the warm-up I kept focusing on that corner and took five shots after the other. The practise went well and that’s why I thought during the game that it had gone well in the warm-up so I would surprise the goalkeeper. That’s how I scored the goal, and I was really pleased with it.

“It was a nice feeling. When you assist goals or score them yourself, it does you good but what’s most important is that we have success as a team and that was the case against Liverpool last season.

“We were really convincing, the whole team was very focused and played really well.”

So there you go lads, do that again and we will all be very happy for the rest of the week.
