It’s now exactly a week since transfer window deadline day for the summer of 2013 and although club record signing Mesut Ozil hadn’t been announced at this time last week, the deal was already very clear in the frame and close to completion.

At the same time Arsenal were still being linked with Ozil’s now ex-teammate Angel Di Maria, who was believed to also have an offer on the table from Arsenal. However several pieces of information piece together a picture that suggests Madrid chose to keep Di Maria over Ozil. But after recognising they may have made the wrong decision, there are continued suggestions that Wenger may return for the Argentinean frontman either this January or next summer.
Ex-Gunner Ray Parlour is also confident that the signing of Mesut Ozil could see more Real Madrid players join the German international midfielder at the Emirates.

The famous cockney boy told Sky Sports News, “Ozil is a great signing, he’s a world-class player. I thought they couldn’t get him and that another target would go begging, but Arsenal fans will be really looking forward to watching him next weekend at Sunderland. What I like about the signing as well, is that when you do move clubs, you always talk to your mates at Real Madrid. If Ozil settles in and says that Arsène Wenger is brilliant to work under, you might see a few more Real Madrid players come to Arsenal by Ozil’s recommendation.”

With Arsenal also being linked with two other Madrid players in Iker Casillas and Karim Benzema there is a small chance that perhaps something else could happen and if that was the case we’d be piecing together a very strong team. Out of the three I think I’d like Di Maria the most because I’m unsure on Benzema whilst Casillas is still good despite his age, I just cannot see Wenger going for someone of that age and paying him £100k a week or whatever the Spaniard is on at Madrid.

Of course this doesn’t also only apply to Real Madrid and I think that the signing of Ozil could open the floodgates to convincing a few more top names to join Arsenal however we cannot afford to get carried away. Let’s just hope everyone returns safely from their international duty and gets ready for the game against Sunderland this coming weekend.

  1. Let’s focus first on the Sunderland game & hope the boys play well, especially our new King Ozil and come home with all 3 points. I’m sure Wenger has one eye also on the January window and may again surprise us all. Keep surprising us boss as we are all loving it! Yes Di Maria will be an excellent signing in January and he had a good understanding with King Ozil!
