Arsenal fans are not used to this sort of thing from Arsene Wenger during the January transfer window, as we are usually left with shredded nerves and no fingernails on the transfer deadline day, feverishly checking the internet every few minutes and hoping that the Frenchman has something up his sleeve.

This year the Gunners boss seems to have got his work done with almost a week to spare, as an ESPN report reveals that the transfer deal to bring the Brazilian defender Gabriel Paulista to the Premier League has been done. It has still to be confirmed officially by the Arsenal website but the report explains that Paulista’s La Liga club Villarreal have confirmed the move, which just needs a medical to be done before it is all wrapped up.

Villarreal tweeted, “Agreement with Arsenal for Gabriel, who will say goodbye today after game. Good Luck!”

Then a statement on their website declared, “Ahead of the finalisation of some small contractual details on Monday, Villarreal and Arsenal have agreed the transfer of the Brazilian defender Gabriel Armando de Abreu. Once the centre-half passes a medical he will join the London Premier League club.”

They also revealed that our young striker Joel Campbell will be heading in the opposite direction on loan for the rest of the season, which I am not too sure about. With the 17-year old midfielder Krystian Bielik, Paulist makes two January signings for Arsenal, but is that it?

I wonder if Wenger has something else planned, perhaps in the striking or goalkeeping areas. Maybe he still wants to sign a top class central midfielder this month if he can. Do you expect any more transfer business from the Arsenal boss?

  1. I don’t think wenger will buy a DM, with already coquelin n chambers…
I guess wenger will try to bring in Lacazette…

  2. Bielik is not a signing for this season. If Gabriel Paulista is to join the Gunners on Monday, it will be their first signing for this current season. Since the departure of their former captain, Thomas Vermaelen and coupled by the injury absence of Per and Koscielny their defence has been struggling this season. This is one of the main reasons attributing to the 13 points gap behind leaders Chelsea.

Vermaelen left during the winter transfer window, yet Wenger allowed such deficiency to linger to the next season. The only explanation is that the club are never interested in the title challenge.
