Lukas Podolski has clearly been getting more and more frustrated at Arsenal this season and you can hardly blame him. The German striker has hardly seen any action, starting just one game in the Capital One cup and getting the odd few minutes as a sub at the end of games.

Podolski has spoken about the situation a number of times but nothing has changed and so he knows that he needs to move on in order to get the regular game time needed to keep his international career with Germany alive. And now a Metro report has linked Podolski with a January transfer back to his former club Cologne and the 29-year old has done nothing to discourage the rumours with his latest words.

He said, “I can imagine a transfer to Cologne in the next few years because I’m always attached to the club.

“I have always said that I want to hear this hymn again when walking up the stairs with the number 10 shirt. That’s what I dream about and I hope it comes true again.”

With Joel Campbell also desperate for playing time with the Gunners and Wenger already having good options with Welbeck, Giroud, Alexis, Walcott and Chamberlain, I don’t think the Frenchman will stand in his striker’s way. The only question for me is whether he decides to try to sign a replacement. Do Arsenal even need one?

  1. Of course they need to keep him. Break down the attacking options you listed:

    Welbeck – finding it hard to get as many goals as Arsenal need him to;
    Giroud – coming back from injury, jury is out on whether he will 100% regain his form;
    Alexis – Wenger will run him into the ground and end up with a shadow of a player;
    Walcott – not even back from his injury woes;
    Chamberlain – direct and attacking minded, but as yet not a poacher.

    Will Wenger allow Podolski to leave – probably, he has some kind of mindset against the German, ridiculous and embarrassing situation
