Maybe Arsene Wenger does listen to the Arsenal fans after all. If the Frenchman does finally sign a defensive midfielder this summer, that will be proof positive. Until that happens, however, we will just have to content ourselves with the knowledge that Wenger has finally seen the light and accepted that a strike force consisting of two big Frenchman, neither of which you could exactly call a great finisher, is not enough to challenge for the Premier League and Champions League trophies.

I will still always wonder why the manager did not break his back to sign a striker, even on a temporary basis, in January, but at least he is getting the job done in the summer transfer window, with The Mirror reporting that another Frenchman, Loic Remy, is set to become a Gunner along with the Barcelona and Chile star Alexis Sanchez.

The paper says that a deal of a round £8 million between Arsenal and QPR is all but done, while the personal terms on the 27-year old’s transfer are still being sorted out. I would not be surprised to see Remy with an Arsenal shirt at tomorrow’s launch of the new PUMA kit, though.

With Giroud, Podolski, Sanogo, Walcott returning to fitness and young Joel Campbell coming back from his loan spells, the signing of two more forward players really is taking Arsenal from one extreme to another, but will it be enough to land us the title?

  1. Sanogo will go out on loan and I would not be surprised to see us sell Podolski. I am unsure of how we stand regarding the numbers of non home grown players but I am sure we will have to off load 2 or 3 players, either as loans or sales. Another consideration is the increasing wage bill, we could be looking at another +10m per year if we pick up 3 new signings in addition to replacing Sagna, Flappy and Bendtner. Who else needs loan time and is unlikely to play? Le Coq probably and I have to wonder if Campbell is really good enough yet, I don’t see him getting too many games if we are buying Remy and Sanchez. I just hope the rumors of a DM like Khedira, Bender or Schinderlin are true. If they are I might just break a habit of a lifetime and have a small bet on the title.

    1. All we have to do now is improve the keeper situation –
fabianski and Viviano out, ???? In
      The defence –
sagna and djourou out, Debuchy and ???? In
      The midfield –
      kallstrom out,???? In

  2. Midfield Lar Bedner. Let’s admit the fact Jack Wilshere has hasn’t improved since being brought to first team at Arsenal. He has skill, talented young boy but that’s it, he looks contented and satisfied. I guess he really thinks that he is hell of superb midfielder in England…as for Flamini and Arteta what can you say about these 2 old soldiers. They have given all, during bad times they marched together with the team, good times they shared the laughters in the dressing room, this what I called beautiful moments. But guys, they are aged, we need young and solid midfielders and my take would be “The Great Berlin” anyone as long as it is German. Proven track, look at how they trashed Brazil in WC’s semis. The samba boys has absolutely no chance to create a space in the middle. As for Rosicky, well not too bad as an additions from the bench.

  3. what’s wrong with bringing back Alex Song he knows how we play and did a good job before he went to Barca to win things. But it did not work out for him so why not give him another chance to bring some grit into the mid-field.If we happen to get Bender or Khedira as well then we will have players of quality to rotate when necessary.
