Not only have they stunned Arsenal fans everywhere by getting the former Gunners striker Gervinho playing well and scoring goals, but the Italian club Roma also managed to beat Arsenal to one of our summer transfer targets, the Greek centre back Kostas Manolas. Now it looks like the Serie A side and their manager Rudi Garcia could be about to do it again.

The player that both clubs are looking at for a January transfer, according to a Talksport report, is the Barcelona defender Adriano. The 30-year old Brazilian is a very versatile player and has proved himself all across the back four during his time with Barca. But he has found his playing opportunities very limited recently and is apparently ready to try his luck somewhere else.

His versatility, pace and technical ability makes him the ideal sort of signing for Arsene Wenger and there is no doubt that Arsenal would use him more than Barca. But the report claims that Roma are also very keen and are actually favourites to land Adriano.

This is not good news for Arsenal, clearly, but I do think that we should really be looking for a specialist centre back rather than a player like Adriano.
