Roma to rival Arsenal for top Belgian Transfer Target

Arsenal’s manager Arsene Wenger should expect even further competition for a player which seems to have caught the eyes of most top European clubs as AS Roma are also interested in the services of Ajax’s versatile defender Jan Vertonghen.

The rumours linking Vertonghen to a move away from the Netherlands started off with Tottenham’s interest in him, but now Arsenal seem the most likely to snatch the young Belgian star who has proven in numerous occasions that he can play in the center of the defense, on the left side or as a defensive midfielder.

Jan is playing as a central defender for Ajax, but he’s often used as a defensive midfielder for the Belgian national squad. Unfortunately Belgium won’t be going to the EURO 2012 championship so it will be tough for Ajax to ask too much for the defensive man. That comes as a great news for Arsenal’s manager Arsene Wenger who can buy a relatively cheap player who is also highly skilled.

Spending little money for a player who can perform brilliantly on three positions through the defensive mechanism it’s easy to say that Wenger will be trying to do whatever it takes to transfer the Belgian.
