The Arsenal midfielder Thomas Rosicky is not overly bothered that the Gunners scored seven goals against Blackburn, but should just be happy that they have finally produced a top class performance and must now continue that form to carry them into the Top Four of the Premiership.
The Czech international said: “We recently had an unsuccessful spell so this is something we can build on,”
“We can be happy after this game but the most important thing is to carry a performance like that and fight for a Champions League spot.
“It was a game when almost everything went in and it’s good for confidence. But it does not matter if it was seven goals or one. The most important thing is the performance and the fact we can repeat it.”
Arsenal (and Wenger) had been pilloried by the press and Arsenal fans alike after four games without a win, and Rosicky thinks that the team has to ignore the derisory comments and just work to regain their form consistently.
“That is today’s world,” he said. “It is a very crazy, but that is what you can expect if you lose three times in a row. The important thing is for us not to listen to that, keep working and produce another performance like Saturday’s.
“We were five points behind fourth place and that is nothing in today’s football at this stage of the season. If we perform like this I have no doubt we will be there.”
That gap is now only three points right now, making a win at Sunderland even more important this weekend. Rosicky is right; Arsenal need to build on this excellent win if they are going to salvage anything from this season.
