For quite few years now, whether it is right or wrong, Arsenal Football Club have had a reputation of lacking in ambition. Arsene Wenger took a lot of the blame for the financial way the club was being run, although the owner Stan Kroenke and the chief executive Ivan Gazidis have more say over that part of the club.

But the Arsenal hierarchy were certainly intent on not living beyond their means, and while our Premier League rivals were spending their way to success, this made the Gunners look like a bunch of pen pushing accountants who did not really care about the glory of the club as long as the books balanced.

Fans and players want silverware, though, so now that Wenger is being allowed to spend big money again is great news. We already have last season’s FA cup trophy in the bag and are hoping for more this year. That has become a lot more likely after the superb signing of Alexis Sanchez from Barcelona, and it sends out a very strong message that Arsenal have got ambition and are building a winning team. It is clear from the Chilean’s first interview on Arsenal.com that the reputation of the club and our chances of success were a major factor in him snubbing the likes of Liverpool and Juventus to become a Gunner.

When top players look at Arsenal now and see the likes of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez joining an already strong squad with young players like Ramsey and with Wenger in charge, they see a club that is an attractive proposition and that can only help the Frenchman in the rest of his transfer business this summer. I cannot wait to see who else joins the Arsenal revolution…
