Despite the fact that Arsenal weren’t able to transfer any full-backs in the January transfer window before it closed, the papers are still writing about the possibility of Arsenal going for all sorts of left-backs or right-backs.

Lyon’s Aly Cissokho, City’s Wayne Bridge or Saad Al-Mukhaini have all been linked with possible moves to the Emirates Stadium, but why?

Arsenal’s Sagna is back in full swing thankfully, Gibbs is about ready to get on the pitch allowing Vermaelen to claim back his spot in the center of the defence, and Santos and Jenkinson are to follow up, still having a bit of sideline time to spend though.

All in all Arsenal will have all of its 4 defenders by summer time, so why are the newspapers keeping that up? They’re even linking the Gunners to Vertonghen who would be an impressive addition, saying that he’ll be able to help the Gunners on the left side…and he’s not even a full-back!!

Santos and Gibbs are both top quality players who don’t need changing, and the same goes for Sagna. Let’s just hope that they’ll be injury free. What about Jenkinson? Is he good enough for Arsenal or should the manager think about finding a better replacement for Sagna, one who could actually create competition?

  1. Sagna w Jenkinson as back up although the former is not getting any assists and the latter is still green. Maybe Coquelin is a contender here. Santos is a unorthodox alternative (attacking skills offsetting his defensive skills). Gibbs is a permanent croq and should be replaced.

  2. Gibbs is not a first teamer for me yet………he is not ready…..Arsenal should try to sign JORDI ALBA from VALENCIA !!!! SUITED TO ARSENAL STYLE OF PLAYING !!!

  3. PERSONALLY I THINK IN SAGNA AND VERMAELEN WE ALREADY HAVE THE BEST 2 FULL BACKS IN THE LEAGUE. THEY JUST NEED TO PLAY THERE REGULARLY. IN KOSCIELNY AND SANTOS WE HAVE 2 TOP CLASS UNDERSTUDIES AND IN JENKINSON AND GIBBS WE HAVE THIRD CHOICE YOUNG FULL BACKS. FOR ME WE SHOULD BE LOOKING AT 4 YES FOUR NEW CENTRE BACKS. AS MERTESACKER DJOUROU AND SQUILLACI ARE NOT GOOD ENOUGH. WHILST BARTLEY AND MIQUEL CAN JOIN JENKINSON AND GIBBS AS THIRD CHOICE YOUNGSTERS. SAMBA VERTONGHEN SUBOTIC AND HUMMELS WOULD BE MY 4 BUYS. WHILST SELLING THE 3 MENTIONED ALONG WITH HOYTE BOATENG AND BOTELHO ………..DEFENCE SORTED!!!
1ST – SAGNA SAMBA VERTONGHEN VERMAELEN
2ND – KOSCIELNY SUBOTIC HUMMELS SANTOS
3RD – JENKINSON BARTLEY MIQUEL GIBBS

  4. NO WE SHOULDN’T! Sagna Santos Gibbs and Plenty coming through the ranks.
    Miquel awesome player
Central defender up in Scotland “Bartley” or summink?
    Good old hardworking Carl Jenkinson
    Yennaris
Francis Coquelin – top utility! TOP!
Djourou is only 21, and NOT a full back, but a centre back, and will be a very good 4th option. Everyone too quick to slag, and ignore his strengths.
I can see a frightening new Arsenal emerging, and I am loving these times. Look again at what we already have, and don’t be a mug and miss out.
Afobe, Wilshire, Ox, Theo, Larson (WHU) Gibbs all English all coming thru now.
    CHek it:
    CHezzer
    Sagna Verminator/Per Mert/Koz Santos/Gibbs
    Song/Francis Coquelin
    Arteta/Wilshire/Ramsey/Diaby-yes LOVE him! Rosicky
    Theo/Ox/Gervinho/Ryu !!!! Frightening.
    Van Persie/ Afobe
Anyone who claims to know good football needs to chill their boots. With some full-backs back now, YOU WILL GET A TASTE OF THE GREATNESS THAT IS THE ARSENAL.

  5. you’r forgetting YENARIS as Another capable Full back who cd provided the needed competition to Sagna

  6. We should sign another Jenkinson, a player who can play right across the defence from left to right and also play as a DM.

Jenkinson is a great player, he’s not green. Had He not been injured, he would have automatically played every game in Sagna’s absence, he has already proven his worth. How quick some fans are to forget.

As for Gibbs, I get mad everytime I see we’re still wasting our time with him. A replacement is essential.
