Newcastle United are extremely close to being relegated with their poor form and current position in the table. I think it is entirely possible for them to go down if they don’t start picking up points and if the teams around them do such as Wigan and Sunderland. The Newcastle team is packed with French players that Arsenal have been linked with in the past. The question is, would and should Arsenal move for any of these players if Newcastle were to be relegated?

Let’s start in the defence as we review the players who have been linked with Arsenal in the past.

Mathieu Debuchy
The right back who only arrived at Newcastle in January. Arsene Wenger has been an admirer of his for the last few seasons and would welcome a move for him if the price was low enough. Bacary Sagna may well be on his way out this summer and Debuchy would be a good player to replace him.

Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa
He also arrived in January and was also admired by Wenger because of his excellent leadership and defensive skills that helped Montpelier to a miracle French title win last season. He has not been as influential with Newcastle this season but he certainly has the potential to be a world class defender, the likes of which Arsenal could use.

Cheick Tiote
He may not be French but he surely is a great player. He is one of the best old fashioned defensive midfielders in the league despite not having an impact this season, he would be a great player to fill the gap left by Alex Song last year.

Yohan Cabaye
Cabaye would demand the biggest transfer sum of all of Newcastle’s current players and would be a fine addition to Arsenal. Many other top clubs would be after him though which means competitive bidding will be required from Wenger and the club.

Moussa Sissoko
One of the few players who has performed well for Newcastle this season since his arrival in January. When he played in the French league he was constantly linked with top clubs in Europe including Arsenal. He was an excellent defensive midfielder but since moving to Newcastle he has turned into an excellent attacking midfielder. With the right players around him, I could see Sissoko emulating the ability of Patrick Vieira.

Yoan Gouffran
Yet another player who was linked with Arsenal over the last few seasons. When Chamakh was in good form the gunners during his first 6 months at the club it was said that Gouffran would be brought over to revive the partnership they had at Bordeaux.

Hatem Ben Arfa
He has injury problems but when he can play, he really can play. He has the dribbling skills of a great player and can produce moments of magic when you need them most.

Papiss Cisse
Personally I think Cisse should be Arsenal’s top transfer target. He is an excellent striker who can score goals with the right delivery and could become a top striker with the players he would have around him at Arsenal. Wenger was chasing him for two season when he played for Freiburg but ultimately missed his chance to sign him.

As Arsenal fans which of these players would you like to see at the club if Newcastle were to be relegated?

  1. Id take Cabaye and Ben Arfa. Possibly Tiote for a DM. Then buy a top notch striker to ease the pressure off Giroud. That would cover it for me. Oh, and if Fabregas wants to come back to his real home …

  2. You are joking right? You have named there whole squad. The same squad thats about to go down. Cabaye is the only one whos good enough.

  3. Cabaye and Ben Arfa are injury prone, Tiote and Mbiwa
they have experiense but are flop of this season they must
    struggle to gain their form.

  4. 1. yohan cabaye would complete our midfield he has so much quality on the ball but he is also great at disrupting play.
    2. mbiwa would solve our fourth choice centre back problem as he wont want to go championship.
3.debuchy is a capable replacement if sagna goes.
4.ben arfa could be our robben cutting in on the right flank with a powerful shot. this would offer us squad depth and push oxlade centrally.
5.tiote is similar to ramsey so I would let that pass.
6.gorfran isn’t good enough for us they can have chamack lol.
7.papisse is a good finisher in the Eduardo mould but wouldn’t offer much else so let that one pass as walccott can develop that role.

im surprise u didn’t mention tim krul who was one of the top keepers last season

  5. Do you really think that we will sell, we have the financial power to keep these players. It won’t happen so you can keep on dreaming
