Should Wenger play Arshavin against Aston Villa?

19

Andrei Arshavin must have been devastated by the reaction of the Arsenal fans when he was brought on against Man Utd, which was compounded by the way he let Danny Welbeck walk past him to set up United’s winning goal.

His confidence was low before the incident but what will it be like now? So with the axiom that “If you fall off your bike, you have to get straight back on” then Wenger will surely have to try and restore his confidence by putting him back on the pitch quickly against Aston Villa this weekend.

The game is being played at the Emirates but hopefully it will be a more forgiving crowd for an FA Cup game, and the fans must realise that they have a big part to play in trying to restore confidence in the beleagured Arsenal squad.

Obviously Arsenal fans want Wenger to put out a strong team against Villa as the FA Cup is probably our only real chance of winning a trophy this season, but if YOU were the manager would you have Arshavin down as a starter?

  1. Yes, play him in the middle behind the striker…needs to be injected with motivation somehow…henry might help with that

  2. i would play him agains villa only behind RvP !! not on the wing…he is not a Winger !!!! he is a Second Striker…more like a number 10 !!

  3. Is this really a valid question.
Cant you see, it looks like he is suffering from severe arthritus in his legs.

  4. Big no! i don’t wann he wil nt play against aston villa @ emirates fa cup fouth round on sunday. gunners coach nt anything. thxs

  5. You can nt compared the value of arshavin and oxlade..arshavin is nothing nw,come on wenger giv chance 2 the yung oxlade.he is critical speed like ronaldo.

  6. He has lost his confidence. Wenger should allow him to go and the proceed from him should be added to for Harzard deals.

  7. I believe it is a valid question, I believe he should go in the summer, whilst we can get a tidy sum for him. In the meantime, he should be played against Villa, behind RVP and not on the left.
Arsene needs to show some confidence in the Russian, especially seeing as it doesnt look like any new players are coming in this window.
Andre isnt one to track back, give him a chance in the role he is suited for.

    1. I agree. Play him behind Robin. Arteta will play stengthening and organizing the mid field. Give Ramsey the rest.

  8. If he doesn’t care about the FA cup, the only chance of silverwear we can win this season, then he should yeah. If he wants our team to win something then he should play oxlade chamberlain, the kid is pure class. I don’t like to label the lad so young but he’ll be a world beater one day.

  9. I’m I the only person that thinks Arshavin is getting back in form now. He played better than Walcott and Ramsey in his lst three STARTS. I’m talking about games against QPR, Leeds and Swansea where he also gathered two assists in the process. If he Starts agianst Villa he will score or at least set one up. This article isn’t well written though, it says Welbeck past him when it was Valencia. line up should be
Szczesny, Yennaris, Koscielny, Vermaelen, Miquel, Song, Arteta, Rosicky, Arshavin, Park, Alex Oxelaide.

  10. Unfortunately Asharvin has become another Squillaci or Almunia as far as the fans are concerned, leave him out altogether. He should be easier to sell than the other two.

  11. Well, to start with, it was not him who let Danny Welbeck walk. He marked Valencia, and Danny Welbeck walked past Vermaelen and Song. I guess, Arshavin could not mark both.

But Vermaelen and Song seems to be ok, and Arshavin only was blamed.
