I know that a lot of Arsenal fans will not be exactly thrilled with the Arsenal transfer rumour linking the Gunners with a move for the Watford striker Troy Deeney but I think that we are too often a bit dismissive of players like the 27-year old that have come up from the lower leagues of English football.

If this season has taught us anything it should be to pay more respect to clubs like Leicester and Watford and their players that have done very well thank you in this division that was supposed to be too hard for them. It did take Deeney a while to settle and get off the mark but he now has six goals from his last 11 games and has been a key part of the Hornets’ climb up the EPL table.

So if the Daily Star report claiming that Arsene Wenger is weighing up a transfer bid for the powerful forward turns out to be true then I think we could do a lot worse and a Sky Sports report on the league’s best strikers backs this up.

The stats show that Deeney is very strong in certain key areas of the game. He has created more clean cut chances (8) than the other strikers on the list, with our own Alexis Sanchez back in second with five. He is also joint top for assists with five but the most important stat is the one that shows Deeney has been the most clinical finisher of big chances with an 80 percent success rate.

With Mesut Ozil and all setting up chances, is this why Arsenal are targeting the Watford star?
