Arsene Wenger must be feeling pretty confident that his Arsenal team will bounce back from the Premier League draw with Middlesborough to beat Reading in the EFL cup tomorrow. The Gunners boss is going to completely change the back four, with the summer signing Rob Holding to partner Gabriel in the middle and with Carl Jenkinson set for the first game since his long spell out with injury. I am not sure exactly what the Arsenal and Brazil international defender Gabriel thinks is bad news, but maybe he is just glad that the ankle problem he picked up in the dying seconds of our pre-season win over Manchester City is not as long term as the knee problem affecting his Arsenal teammate Per Mertesacker.
Earlier today Gabriel seemed to suggest there was good news about his injury, as he took to scoial media to say that he was feeling better and it was not a big problem. Maybe not as big as Mertesacker’s reported five months on the sidelines I suppose, but BBC Sport have reported that the Brazilian is going to miss 6-8 weeks, so I would say that is pretty bad wouldn’t you? ...........Read more
Arsenal have already signed a new defender this summer, although there has not been too much fuss over the transfer as it was for Rob Holding, a 20-year old who has only played one full season for Bolton Wanderers as they finished bottom of the division below us.
He has been included in squad for Arsenal’s mini pre-season tour of America, though, so we should at least get a chance to have a look at what Arsene Wenger has brought to the club.
