Last night Arsenal endured a night of horror as for the second time in a week we lost at home arguably to greater opposition. Yesterday Arsenal witnessed defeat at the hands of Chelsea in the Gunners own back yard of the Emirates. The 2-0 loss secured the stat of being the first time since the early months of 2013 that Arsenal failed to score a single goal and overall it was a game full of disappointment.
Arsenal were linked with an awful lot of players this summer and although it now seems to be a normality for Arsenal fans, we can no longer really define the rumours that can be classed as true and which ones are fake. It’s never easy being an Arsenal fan during the transfer window, however if the latest reports are deemed to be true then perhaps we were closer to signing another player than we may have thought.
When it comes to football these days there aren’t many loyal players in the game. There aren’t many true football fans in the game and although I understand if you make it as a professional, the club you once supported as a kid becomes less valued because players will always want their team to win, some players continue to show the affection for their supported club, especially if it’s the club they play for.
It is being reported that we could be offloading Nicklas Bendtner to Spanish side Malaga and getting their captain Jesus Gamez thrown in for free. This sounds like a crazy story because I would bite their arms off for this deal, or get Luis Suarez to do it for me.
Arsenal right back Carl Jenkinson had played amongst the Finland national team’s development teams over the course of his professional career however after making his debut for England last year, the defender is now fully focused on maintaining a regular spot at Arsenal and hopefully being involved for next year’s 2014 World Cup, hosted in Brazil.
Bacary Sagna has been a great servant for Arsenal since he joined the club from Auxerre back in 2007. He is the only current member of the Arsenal squad, apart from the players we want to leave, who is about to enter the last year of his contract and it appears that there is a good chance he will leave the club this summer.
Although the French right back has denied any specific contact from the new French champions Paris Saint-Germain, that seems to be his most likely destination. The 30-year old has been offered a new contract by the Gunners and he claims that he might still stay, but he will weigh up his options at the end of the season.
Now this could be an interesting line-up this evening as I am sure that Wenger may do a little tweaking to give some of the fringe players a run-out, in a game that Arsenal could surely win even if Wenger only played his youth team.
In fact if any Wigan fans are looking for a win tonight, then they would be better off staying at home playing blackjack online rather than going to the game!
The young Arsenal defender Carl Jenkinson has already admitted that he is a true Gooner and even has his bedroom decorated with Arsenal wallpaper! And now he is at his boyhood club he is very impressed with the freindliness and team spirit in the Arsenal dressing room.
“I have only been at Charlton before, but the team spirit here is fantastic,” he said. “Everyone gets on, which is quite rare in football. Often you have cliques of people or people who argue all the time, but we all get on well here.
Arsenal’s right-back Carl Jenkinson might be coming back sooner than expected as he’s already prepared to make his appearance in the reserve squad.
According to the newspapers, Jenkinson is no further than 2 weeks away of being ready to play for the senior squad, so the full-back danger at Arsenal is finally averted now that Sagna, Gibbs and Jenkinson are all fit to play.
Despite the fact that Arsenal weren’t able to transfer any full-backs in the January transfer window before it closed, the papers are still writing about the possibility of Arsenal going for all sorts of left-backs or right-backs.
Lyon’s Aly Cissokho, City’s Wayne Bridge or Saad Al-Mukhaini have all been linked with possible moves to the Emirates Stadium, but why?
Arsenal’s Sagna is back in full swing thankfully, Gibbs is about ready to get on the pitch allowing Vermaelen to claim back his spot in the center of the defence, and Santos and Jenkinson are to follow up, still having a bit of sideline time to spend though.
