I am not sure what to9 make of the comments about Arsenal made by the Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp this week, as he prepares to bring his team to north London for the opening round of Premier League games. Perhaps the German is playing a bit of mind games and maybe trying to get his opposite number Arsene Wenger to change his own approach or even to relax and expect today’s visitors to play a certain way.
Arsenal will almost certainly be looking to sign a striker during the summer transfer window, probably two really, unless Arsene Wenger has another of his stubborn moments when he sees the current Arsenal players as being so good that we don’t need any more fire power even though everyone else and his dog thinks we do.
I think that the Gunners could do a lot worse than bring in the Liverpool and Belgium striker Christian Benteke and I will tell you why, even though he has had a bit of a nightmare since joining our Premier League rivals Liverpool. The fact is that Benteke has already proved himself in the Premier League and the fact that his performances and figures were extremely good in a struggling Aston Villa side is just one of them.
As Arsenal are supposedly upping their game on the search for a striker this January following the news that Theo Walcott will be ruled out for the rest of the Premier League campaign, few would have expected to hear that a possible outgoing player rumour was doing the rounds.
Arsenal and Germany under 19 international, Serge Gnabry has made a breakthrough into the Gunners first team this season, showing his full potential through a string of impressive performances more than once this season. But now Arsenal could be in for a battle to keep the youngster with German superclub Borussia Dortmund supposedly eyeing up a summer move for the 18 year old.
Arsenal have gotten off to a very good start this season, excelling expectations in both the Premier League and Champions League. The Gunners may have faltered in the Capital One Cup, however the club’s respective positions in the other two competitions more than make up for it.
At the start of the season and after the 3-1 defeat to Aston Villa, nobody expected Arsenal to be in position we are in. However after beating German super club Borussia Dortmund and regaining our position at the top of the champions league group of death, Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp has taken expectations even further to suggest that Arsenal could go as far as to win the Champions League.
I think it’s no real surprise that Arsenal are expecting a difficult game tonight as we look to visit last year’s Champions League finalists Borussia Dortmund at their home stadium in Germany. The highly contested game holds more pressure for Arsenal to rekindle their Champions League chase for top spot rather than Borussia Dortmund who took all three points from the Gunners a few weeks back at the Emirates.
A lot of Arsenal fans already likes the outgoing, entertaining and intelligent Jurgen Klopp, despite his side springing a disappointing defeat on us in the last Champions League game at the Emirates. But after the Borussia Dortmund’s latest words, his stock has risen even more.
In an interview with the Guardian in the build up to the return Champions League fixture in Germany, Klopp waxed lyrical about Arsenal and Arsene Wenger. He declared himself in love with the English style of football, especially the brand of it on show at the Emirates. The Gunners manager, in his opinion should already have been knights along with ol’ purple nose himself.
After joining Arsenal in 1996, Arsene Wenger has now spent 16 years at the club, in which he has arguably become one of Arsenal’s greatest managers, especially as he is one of the most successful! However the Frenchman has now gone eight consecutive years without silverware and some have suggested perhaps his time with the club should be brought to an end, if not before now. But it seems like Wenger is set to remain with Arsenal for a few more years at least.
The latest right back to be linked with Arsenal is Borussia Dortmund’s Lukasz Piszczek. Arsenal have been looking for a right back recently because of the likelihood of Bacary Sagna leaving the club.
Sagna has been concerning the manager Arsene Wenger with his lack of match fitness and poor performances. Sagna himself seems keen on a move to French giants PSG. It is unclear whether PSG will make a move for the Frenchman or not and it is also unclear if Wenger will allow him to leave the club. Sagna would definitely be interested in a move to PSG to live close to his hometown and pocket a larger wage for the remaining years of his career.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger’s bubble just got burst as it seems that the Gunners will miss on one of their most important transfer targets, as German manager Jurgen Klopp dismissed a potential move away from Borussia Dortmund by club striker Robert Lewandowski.
The 23-year-old striker has admitted being very interested in the possibility of taking on a new challenge after winning the event with Dortmund this season, leaving Bayern Munich behind in the fight for the Bundesliga and the DFB Pokal.
“We will not sell Robert Lewandowski – not for any price,” Klopp told German newspaper Suddeutsche Zeitung.
