Arsenal are on a fantastic run of results lately, with seven wins in a nine-game unbeaten run which has propelled them back into the Champions League places. The famous Arsenal legend Tony Adams believes that this has been helped by the fact that Wenger has finally decided to play with a settled defence in every game.
Adams said: “What they have done in recent weeks is become a lot tighter at the back, and people like Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny have certainly benefitted from playing together consistently.
“Ok, that has made it tough for Thomas Vermaelen, who has done so much for the club since he arrived.
“Earlier in the season, Arsene was rotating his centre-backs and that makes it difficult to establish a real partnership.
“Now he has decided on Mertesacker and Koscielny as his first choice and the fact they have played together for a number of games has clearly helped. Mertesacker is also talking a lot more, pointing at players and giving orders.
“Maybe Steve Bould has had a word about that with him because he is certainly more vocal.”
Who would have thought at the beginning of the season that Captain Vermaelen would have ended the campaign on the bench? Not me for sure! But it certainly seems to have done the job since he was dropped by Wenger. Lets hope they can keep one more clean sheet to end the season.
